The Rock Island Fire Department is dedicated to bringing compassionate, life-saving emergency medical care to the citizens and visitors of Rock Island. With 55 paramedics, the Rock Island Fire Department is ready to respond to any emergency medical situation. The Fire Department also provides two full-time Advanced Life Support ambulances staffed with two paramedics.
The Fire Department also staffs three paramedic level engine companies and one Paramedic Rescue Squad. The engines and Rescue Squad are equipped with Advanced Life Support equipment. This allows quick and expert response prior to the arrival of an ambulance.
All 911 emergency and non-emergency calls for the Fire Department are dispatched through the Rock Island 911 emergency dispatch center in Rock Island. The Fire Department responds to over 6,000 emergency medical calls per year, including vehicle accidents, cardiac, respiratory, diabetic, and other EMS emergencies.
In conjunction with area colleges, the Rock Island Fire Department provides students that are affiliated with a paramedic program the opportunity to ride and learn with veteran paramedics.
