Fright Night in the Park
Get your costumes ready for a free Halloween event just for kids! Goodwill of the Heartland and Rock Island Parks and Recreation proudly present Fright Night in the Park on Thursday, October 23rd from 5 to 7 p.m. at Schwiebert Riverfront Park. This fun and safe Halloween event will feature trick-or-treating, a costume contest, a live DJ and dance performances. The first 500 children will receive a free goodie bag. Secret guest judges will roam the park, awarding costume contest prize certificates to those with the best costumes.
Free Public Lecture Series
The Frieze Lectures, a free public lecture series at the Rock Island Public Library, continues for its 28th year from October 23rd to November 13th.
This year’s series will consider subjects related to death, dying and mortality through the lenses of psychology, art, poetry and anthropology. All presentations begin at 2 p.m. at Downtown Rock Island Public Library, 401 19th Street. The lectures are open to the public and free of charge. The first lecture on October 23rd is titled “Death and the Psychologist” presented by Dr. Jayne Rose, professor emerita of psychology.
