[ARCHIVED] Rock Island Police Department joins statewide Labor Day traffic safety effort

Click It Or Ticket

Rock Island, IL – The Rock Island Police Department is proud to join over 200 law enforcement agencies across Illinois in the statewide safety campaigns: “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” “Drive High, Get a DUI,” and “Click It or Ticket” this Labor Day.

From August 15 through the early morning hours of September 2, officers will increase patrols to crack down on impaired driving, enforce seat belt usage, and address other dangerous driving behaviors.

“Driving under the influence — whether it's alcohol, cannabis, or any impairing substance — isn't just dangerous, it's illegal,” said Chief Tim McCloud, spokesperson for the Rock Island Police Department. “Our officers will be out with zero tolerance for impaired drivers. We're here to keep our community safe.”

As part of the Click It or Ticket campaign, officers will also be checking to ensure all vehicle occupants are properly buckled up. Seat belts remain the most effective way to reduce serious injury or death in the event of a crash — whether you’re in the front or back seat.

In addition to alcohol-related offenses, law enforcement will be actively looking for drivers under the influence of cannabis or other drugs. Campaigns like Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over and Drive High, Get a DUI are designed to raise awareness and prevent tragedies on Illinois roads.

“We want everyone in Rock Island to enjoy the holiday weekend safely,” added Chief McCloud. “Make a plan before you go out — use a designated driver, call a ride service, but never drive impaired. A few smart choices can save lives.”

This local enforcement push is part of a broader statewide initiative supported by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) through federal highway safety funds. IDOT's It’s Not a Game media campaign is also running on radio, TV, and digital platforms to emphasize the deadly consequences of impaired driving.

This local effort is part of a larger statewide campaign supported by the Illinois Department of Transportation, which administers the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Click It or Ticket” campaigns with federal highway safety funds. The initiative is reinforced by IDOT’s “It’s Not a Game” media campaign running across radio, TV and digital platforms to highlight the deadly consequences of impaired driving.
