On Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at approximately 7:06 p.m. the Rock Island Police Department responded to UnityPoint Trinity Hospital after an 18-year old male arrived with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his hand.

. This subject reported being the victim of an attempted armed robbery in the 2500 block of 5th ½ Avenue in which the suspect, described as a black male wearing a blue puffy coat, attempted to rob him of his property. The Rock Island Police Department did not receive any calls of shots fired in the area at the time of the incident. No other injuries or damaged property was found or reported to police.

During the investigation, officers located a 16-year old male in the area who matched the description of the robbery suspect. This suspect was detained and found to be in possession of a handgun that had previously been reported stolen out of Rock Island.

Criminal Investigations detectives then obtained a search warrant for a residence in the 500 block of 24th Street that was linked to the investigation. At approximately 10:38 p.m. tactical teams from the Rock Island Police Department and the Rock Island County Sheriff’s Department executed the search warrant without incident.

The juvenile suspect was later transferred to the Mary Davis Detention Facility, currently charged with Aggravated Unlawful Use of Weapons and Possession of Stolen Property. No further arrests have been made at this time.

The incident remains under investigation by the Rock Island Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division; no further information is available at this time.
