In addition to the return of monthly book sales at the Southwest Branch on Tuesday, July 5 (see other story for details,) events at the Rock Island Public Library this week include:
Free "Cinema at Southwest" Movie: The library will show the classic 1987 Romance/Adventure movie based on the William Goldman novel, The Princess Bride, on Thursday, July 7 at 6:00 pm at Rock Island Southwest Branch, 9010 Ridgewood Road. Free popcorn provided. The movie marks the return of monthly movies offered at the Southwest Branch.
The movie is 1h 38m and is rated PG. Though Cinema at Southwest is intended for adults, this particular movie is probably OK for most children. Feel free to bring the family.
The library's Teen Department offers "Summer Scares" on July 7, from 3:30 to 4:30 pm at the Downtown Library. Teens who love to be scared by the stories they read will want to join the library to play Salem 1692: A Witch Hunt game and celebrate great stories in the horror fiction genre. The event is for ages 12 to 18.
Parents can learn about managing Family Stress with the second free Parenting Class from EveryChild. The free event is Thursday July 7 from 4:30 to 5:30 pm at the Downtown Library. Parents will gain an understanding of stress and its causes in adults and in kids, and healthy ways to deal with stress. The event is free, and registration is requested. To sign up, visit the library website.
