Registration Open for Hug-A-Book Learning Through Play Kit

Very young children learn through play, and the Rock Island Public Library, assisted by a number of community partners, is offering a free kit to bring fun and learning home this April.

Registration is open from April 4 to 15 for the Hug-A-Book Learning through Play kit, designed for families with children ages 2 to 5. Each kit includes Play activities including: A Feeling Friend, Morning and Bedtime Routine clip book, a calm-down do-it-yourself activity, and a book about play. Once you register, your kits may be picked up at a Rock Island Public Library location or through curbside pickup at RIPL locations from April 18 to April 23.  Please indicate your pick-up location when registering.

The kit is available at no charge, thanks to the Merrill Harris Hug-A-Book Memorial of the Rock Island Public Library Foundation. They are available to anyone, but must be picked up at Rock Island Public Library locations. The kit is brought to you by the Rock Island Public Library, in partnership with the Rock Island County All Our Kids (AOK) Network, EveryChild, Rock Island County Regional Office of Education, and the Merrill Harris Memorial.

In addition to the kit, a one-hour parent workshop on the importance of play in your child's life will be presented virtually by Heather Lamb, EveryChild prevention educational specialist, at 6:00 pm on Wednesday, April 27, and again at noon on Thursday, April 28.  Workshop content is identical, so choose the time that works for your schedule. To register, visit the following Zoom registration links:
