[ARCHIVED] Read for a Better World this Winter with RIPL!

Rock Island Public Library Read for a Better World Winter Reading Challenge

Using the power of imagination, readers can always envision a better world. To encourage reading for fun and relaxation, the Rock Island Public Library offers the all-ages "Read for a Better World" Winter Reading Challenge, Jan. 17-Feb. 26.

Explore and imagine other worlds and perspectives this winter through a cozy winter reading sessions for the whole family!

The Rock Island Public Library's  2022 Winter Reading Challenge encourages all ages to “Read for a Better World” from Monday, January 17 through Saturday, February 26. Participants in the six-week challenge will read anything they want, anytime they want, and track reading time or books for digital badges and small rewards. Challenge participants can also help the library achieve a community-wide winter reading goal of 4,000 minutes and 900 books.

Age-based goals for the reading challenge include:

  • Children, pre-kindergarten to 6th grades: Finish 10 books, earn a prize book. (Reading to a child counts, so start a family story time.)
  • Teens, ages 12 to 18: Read 5 hours, earn prizes at 150 and 300 minutes. Books read for school also count.
  • Adults, ages 18 and up: Earn an entry into weekly drawings for each book you finish, up to five books. All types of reading (print, eBook, audiobook) count.

The Winter Reading Challenge is for all ages, and is open to anyone. Prizes must be picked up locally. The library will not mail rewards.

To join in the free reading challenge, log into or register a free account at the library’s Beanstack reading challenge site  and track reading time or books.  A free mobile reading app is also available from Beanstack. (A paper tracking option is available at the library website.)

For more services and events at the library, visit the library website, call 309-732-READ, and follow the Rock Island Library on social media.
