The Rock Island Public Library has opened registration for virtual art and math children’s programming offered from Tuesday, June 8 to July 13 during Reading Colors Your World summer learning.
Art and Math virtual demonstrations and projects premiere at 2:00 pm and 3:00 pm, respectively, from June 8 to July 13 via the Rock Island Public Library YouTube channel. They’ll remain available for viewing on demand. The following programs are available for registration now:
- Watercolor Your World with Ms. Glo: Art instructor Gloria Burlingame, aka Ms. Glo, will introduce children and teens to all things watercolor this summer. Registered participants will learn about watercolor painting, techniques, famous artists, and the colors they used. The program is open to ages 8 to 14 (roughly, 3rd to 9th grades.) Registration is limited to 30 participants.
- Math Colors Your World with Ms. Elizabeth: Math concepts can be so fun and they are all around us. Tutor Elizabeth Russell, aka Ms. Elizabeth, will take children through a rainbow of fun math activities. This program is open to ages 7 to 12 (roughly 2nd through 6th grades.) Registration is limited to 50.
Supply kits for all projects in each series will be available starting Monday, May 17. The YouTube link for each session will be emailed to registered participants.

Kits will be available for pick up either via Curbside or inside the Children’s Room at the Downtown Library. For pick up at the Southwest Library, participants should add a note to their registration or call the Children’s Room at 309-732-7360. The Reading Colors Your World summer reading challenge for all ages runs June 1 to July 31. Registration for summer reading challenges for all ages starts via Beanstack on May 15.
