Thursday Night Groove Concert Series at Schwiebert Park – The Fall concert line up begins this Thursday, August 13, 2020 with Funktastic 5 followed by North of 40 on August 20, 2020.  Bring your chairs and picnic blankets and enjoy summer concert performances. Beginning at 6:00 pm, concessions will be available, including Happy Joe’s Pizza and Bent River Brewing Company.  The concerts are from 7:00 to 9:00 pm.  We ask all patrons to be smart, wear masks, practice social distancing, and to keep seating grouped with those in your immediate household. With these measures in place we can provide a safe and enjoyable outdoor music experience.

Fall Youth Sports and Fitness Activities – The Rock Island Parks and Recreation Department will offer the following activities in August following the Phase 4 Restore Illinois Plan. Flag Football Pre-Season Camp for ages 6-14 will be held August 26, 2020 and August 27, 2020 from 6:00 - 7:30 pm at the Campbell Sports Complex.  Flag Football for ages 5-14 will have a four-week session from September 2, 2020 to September 26, 2020. There will be practices and intra-team scrimmages only and no competitive play with other teams. Both flag football camps will be led by Coach Hammer and the Rocky Football team. Soccer Pre-Season Camp for ages 6-14 will be held August 24, 2020 and August 25, 2020 from 6:00 -7:30 pm at the Campbell Sports Complex. Fall Soccer will begin a four-week session in September. There will be practices and intra-team scrimmages only and no competitive play with other teams. Both soccer camps will be led by Coach Rudy and the Rocky Boys Soccer Team. Specific times and locations for the age groups for each camp are listed on our website. Registration fees for these camps are $30.00 each and the deadline to sign up is August 21, 2020.

First Tee Junior Golf Programs for ages 8-17 will also run at Highland Springs Driving Range on various nights. Over 10 different outdoor land fitness classes are being held in the Rock Island Fitness and Activity Center parking lot and Schwiebert Park. Water fitness classes and swim lessons are also running the month of August.  Participants can register online for any of these camps and classes at www.rigov.org/epark, by phone at (309) 732-7275 or in person at RIFAC.

The City of Rock Island Response to the Storm – The City of Rock Island crews are currently out cleaning the roadways of debris limbs and trees.  Starting on Monday, August 17, 2020 there will be a FREE special collection of ONLY trees, limbs, and branches.  Garbage and other materials should not be included.  Customers are asked to set out debris by 7:00 am on their normal garbage collection day of the week in their regular garbage pick-up location or near the curb.  Do not place limbs in the street.  Limbs do not need to be trimmed or bundled.  It may take several weeks to collect all debris.  The Refuse and Yard Waste Drop Off Center is open on Saturday from 7:00 am to noon at Millennium Waste, 13606 Knoxville Road, Milan.  There is a $17.00 fee per vehicle with not more than the equivalent of a full-size pickup load per trip. Due to power outages, several traffic signals remain out throughout the City.  Once power has been restored the traffic signals will return to operation.  Please contact the Public Works Department at (309)732-2200 t report any blocked roadways.
