Take control of your financial records and reduce paper clutter safely and securely with the Rock Island Public Library's free Community Shred Day on Thursday, May 2, in the Rock Island Downtown Library parking lot.

Take control of your financial records and reduce paper clutter safely and securely with the Rock Island Public Library's free Community Shred Day on Thursday, May 2, in the Rock Island Downtown Library parking lot.

The Rock Island Library is offering the drive-up and drop-off secure shredding event on Thursday, May 2, from 9:30 am to 11:30 am in the Rock Island Downtown Library parking lot. The free event offers confidential and secure shredding and disposal of personal financial documents, which helps avoid identify theft.

Materials are handled by a certified destruction agent from Shred-It. The event is made possible by a sponsorship from the Gas & Electric Credit Union, and is open to anyone.

Participants should limit material to three disposable boxes or containers per household. Please line up along the library alley, entering from the 20th Street side of the building. Drivers should stay with their cars. A volunteer will collect your disposable containers.

To speed processing, please do not tape or tie containers. Papers should be removed from ring binders, but staples and paperclips may be left in place.

The mobile shredding service is provided on a drive-up and drop-off basis, with material shredded onsite by full bin. . Due to traffic and volume, you won't watch your material being shredded. Shred-It is NAID Certified for mobile document destruction..

This service is designed for confidential papers that should be shredded for security. Newspapers, magazines, and other non-confidential paperwork should be disposed of through regular recycling channels.
