The Rock Island Public Library offers several ways to get creative at your library and take time for you with new events starting this month.

The Rock Island Public Library offers several ways to get creative at your library and take time for you with new events starting this month.

Library guests of all ages can learn how to turn ordinary household items into new treasures with Earth Day Everyday Art. The new series starts at 6:00 pm, Thursday, March 21 at the Rock Island 30/31 Library, 3059 30th Street. The March craft is a wallet-sized picture frame embellished with magazine scrap flowers. Other upcoming crafts include an April 17 egg carton wreath, and a May 23 CD tissue box cover. Crafts are planned through July 2019, and all are at the 30/31 Library.

On March 28, the library starts another new series, one that will help adults make projects that will help them relax, unwind and take time for themselves. The Self-Care Craft Series is offered at 6:00 pm at rotating Rock Island Library locations through May. Crafts and locations include:

  • Thursday, March 28: Relaxation Jar Craft, Rock Island 30/31 Library,
  • Tuesday, April 30: Rice Heating Pack with Essential Oils, Rock Island Southwest Library
  • Wednesday, May 29: Scented Sugar Scrub, Rock Island Downtown Library.

Reservation is required for both the Earth Day Everyday Art and Self-Care Crafts. Please sign up online or call the library to register for the free events.

The crafting continues in April with Gettin' Stitchy With It at the Rock Island Downtown Library. Offered at 2:00 pm on the last Thursday of each month, the series is a new "club" for adults with an itch to stitch, whether that's knitting, crocheting, sewing, cross-stitching or any other project that involves stitches. The drop in times provide opportunities for crafters to meet up, work on their respective projects, and share information. No registration or membership is required. Upcoming meeting dates include April 25, May 23, and June 27. Please see library website for additional dates.
