Weather permitting, families can drop by the Rock Island 30/31 Library on Saturday, October 6 to view stars and planets with the Quad Cities Popular Astronomy Club.

Weather permitting, families can drop by the Rock Island 30/31 Library on Saturday, October 6 for In the Stars, a free star and planet viewing session with the Quad Cities Popular Astronomy Club.

The astronomy viewing takes place Oct. 6 from 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm in the parking lot of the Rock Island 30/31 Library at 3059 30th Street. With the aid of high-powered telescopes and their Mobile Observatory trailer, club members will help participants learn about space and see a variety of planets and stars.

If conditions are clear, attendees should be able to see Mars and Saturn after sunset, with the planets Neptune and Uranus appearing later in the evening. Many stars and star clusters may also be visible, such as the ET Cluster, Eta Cassiopiae, Albireo, Blinking Planetary, and the Dumbbell Nebula.

Event guests may park in the nearby First Baptist or St. George's Greek Orthodox Church lots. If it rains or skies are significantly overcast, the event will be canceled. Please watch the Rock Island Public Library Facebook page or online calendar for updates.

The event is for all ages. The library will be open for restrooms and late checkouts.
