Launch the newly independent reader in your home with Rocket into Reading, a new Rock Island Public Library event just for them.
Rocket into Reading is for kids in K through 2nd Grades who are making the leap to more independent reading. The free event for ages 5 to 8 is Thursday, March 8 from 6:00 to 7:00 pm in the Rock Island Downtown Library community room, 401 19th Street.
The reading and learning event features a pet theme, with chances to read to a friendly therapy dog from the QC Canine Assistance (QC CAN) program, fun activities, and a pet craft. Each child receives a new, free book to take home, thanks to funding from the Rock Island Public Library Foundation.
The program is a new addition to the library's popular Hug-A-Book reading and literacy series, funded through a bequest from the Merrill Harris fund of the Rock Island Library Foundation. By encouraging the love of reading for fun, the Hug-A-Book program supports literacy and reading at grade level.
The event is free and no registration is required.
