They are sworn to serve and protect, and for one day this year, to shop.
Members of the Rock Island Police & Fire Departments, along with volunteers from the City of Rock Island & the Rock Island / Milan School District, will be volunteering their time on Friday December 8th, 2017 from 4:00 - 5:30 pm, shopping for holiday gifts with local children.
The Cops & Firefighters for Christmas program brings together police & firefighters with a needy child to shop for Christmas gifts for themselves and/or their families. The Cops for Christmas program is a positive opportunity that not only allows for the children to shop for gifts, but to also meet and spend time with local police officers & firefighters.
The children selected to participate in this program come through recommendations made by their respective schools. This year, 40 children have been selected to participate in the program.
Funds for this program were raised throughout the year through various fundraising efforts by both the Rock Island Police and Fire Departments.
The annual Rock Island Cops for Christmas event will be at the Walmart store located at 3930 44th Avenue Dr, Moline, IL. After completing their shopping, the children will be treated to dinner, held in the Community room of the Rock Island Police Department between 6:30 - 7:00 pm. The dinner is sponsored by the Rock Island Police Department Protective and Benevolent Association Unit 3 and the Rock Island Fraternal Order of Police #57.
Donations for the Cops for Christmas program can be made to the Rock Island Police Department, 1212 5th Avenue, Rock Island, IL 61201.
