[ARCHIVED] Build Learning at the Hug-A-Book Construction Play Zone

Hug-A-Book Construction Play Zone Event

Children ages two to five and their families can build learning skills through play at the Hug-A-Book Construction Play Zone, from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm, Wednesday, Oct. 4 at the Rock Island Downtown Library, 401 19th Street.

Children ages two to five and their families can build learning skills through play at the Hug-A-Book Construction Play Zone, from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm, Wednesday, Oct. 4 at the Rock Island Downtown Library, 401 19th Street.

Eight construction play zones will give children and their families opportunities to build, construct, design, and learn. Activities include a building zone with blocks, tools and dramatic play, a "driving range" with toy trucks and cars, a scavenger hunt for matching shapes and objects, a building skills engineering area with play tools, tinker toys, and play dough, and a hard hat craft project. Activities are designed for the learning needs of children two to five, although older and younger siblings are welcome, too.

Each child receives a new book to take home, courtesy of the Merrill Harris Hug-A-Book fund of the Rock Island Public Library Foundation.

The Construction (Play) Zone event is a collaboration of Rock Island Public Library, the All Our Kids (AOK) Early Childhood Network, Child Abuse Council, and the Rock Island County Regional Office of Education. The Rock Island County All Our Kids Early Childhood Network is a program of the Child Abuse Council. Funding for the AOK Network is provided by the Illinois Department of Human Services.

The event is free and no registration is required. Hug-A-Book is the library's early learning series for children ages two to five, presented four times each year.

For more information about Rock Island Library hours, services and programs, visit the library's website, call 309-732-READ, or follow the library on Facebook or Twitter.
