[ARCHIVED] Get Ready for Kindergarten at Rock Island Library!

It hardly seems possible, but in just about a month, Rock Island and Milan five-year-olds will be heading off to a new adventure - Kindergarten!

To help parents and future kindergarteners prepare for their first school experience, the Rock Island Public Library will be offering "Ready, Set, Kindergarten" drop-in programs in the Children’s Department on four Thursdays in July.

The free events use fun activities to help develop the 12 skills children need to know before entering Kindergarten. From holding a pencil to using scissors, following simple instructions and identifying colors, numbers, and shapes, the self-paced project sessions emphasize kindergarten readiness.

Parents, grandparents and other caregivers and their children may drop into the Downtown Library Children’s Room, anytime between 3:00 pm and 6:00 pm on July 6, 13, 20, and 27 to go through the work stations. Ready, Set, Kindergarten is free and open to preschoolers and their caregivers.

Rock Island Library’s Reading by Design summer reading and learning program runs until Saturday, July 15. Registration is still available for summer reading contests for kids, teens, adults, and families, either online or at any Rock Island Library location. For information or to register online, visit the library website.

For details about more events for all ages in July, pick up a Summer Guide while supplies last, call 309-732-READ,  or follow the library on Facebook and Twitter.
