The Illinois
Department of Natural Resources, Office of Water Resources (IDNR/OWR) is
partnering with the Illinois State Water Survey, Rock Island District US Army
Corps of Engineers, and the City of Rock Island to examine flood risk in the
Mississippi River watershed.
A IDNR/OWR
survey crew will be in the flood risk areas beginning in mid-January and continuing
through the spring. This work will
require the survey crew to briefly come onto individual properties to collect
necessary elevation information. The
surveyors will be acquiring first floor (front door sill) and lowest entry
(window well or crawl space vent) elevations to determine potential flood
threat to homes or businesses and many neighboring structures in the Mississippi
River watershed. No disruption to property
is anticipated.
This work is being
performed under the authority granted to the Department in 615 ILCS 15/7.
