The historic Tulip Mansion, known as the Hauberg Center, will be full of music and color for the holidays with two weekends of Winter in Bloom events. Free open-house weekends of December 3rd/4th and December 10th/11th will allow viewers to enjoy the elegant displays of “the Christmas flower” poinsettias throughout the estate, including the grand poinsettia tree in the main hall as well as historical tours, live music, and special visits from Santa, Princess Beauty, and the Snow Queen & Ice Princess.
Step back in time as the Friends of Hauberg Civic Center take you on a docent-led tour of the historic former home of Suzanne (Denkmann) and John Hauberg built in 1911, beautifully decorated for the holidays by the Friends of Hauberg Civic Center, Rock Island Horticulture Club and Rock Island Parks & Recreation Department. Saturday, December 3rd from 4:00-8:00 pm will be historic tours on the hour as well as live piano music. Sunday, December 4th from 12:00 to 5:00 pm will be historic tours on the hour as well as a visit from Santa from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. Friends of Hauberg Civic Center will be hosting this weekend’s historic tours and activities.
Kids and families are welcome to return the following weekend as the Rock Island Parks and Recreation Department hosts Winter in Bloom Kids Days at the Hauberg Center on Saturday, December 10th from 12:00 to 4:00 pm and Sunday, December 11th from 10:00 to 4:00 pm. Enjoy a holiday atmosphere, a wide assortment of holiday cookies and hot drinks, Princess meet & greets (Princess Beauty on Saturday, Snow Queen and Ice Princess on Sunday), children’s crafts and activities including a scavenger hunt for prizes.
New this year is the Passport to the Holidays which is a collaborative effort between the Hauberg Center, Quad City Botanical Center, the Butterworth Center and Deere-Wiman House. Attendees are encouraged to visit all three facilities during their holiday open house hours and get a passport stamped at each location. Completed passports will be entered to win one of three gift baskets, donated by each facility. Passports can be picked up at any of the three facilities during open house hours. Quad City Botanical Center’s open house is Sunday, December 4th from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. Butterworth Center and Deere-Wiman House’s open house is Sunday, December 4th from 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
