Save your green during the first week of March by taking advantage of free Rock Island Library events for the whole family, and great reading, watching, and listening collections for all ages.
Tuesday, March 4:
- Tuneful Tuesday, featuring Quad City Ukulele Club band, March 4 at noon, Rock Island Downtown Library, 401 19th Street. Add some spring to your step with the fun music of the Quad City Ukulele Club band. This club for ukulele enthusiasts performs all over the Quad Cities, spreading the joyful sound of the ukulele. Free, open to all ages. Bring a sack lunch.
- Journaling Workshop: March 4, 4:30 to 5:30 pm, Rock Island Downtown Library. Take some time to reflect and celebrate World Teen Mental Wellness Day with journaling prompts, snacks, and supplies for both beginners and experienced journalers. Free, open to both teens and adults.
- Exploring Space with Coralie Adam, Illinois Libraries Present: March 4 at 7 pm, online. Get an inside look at the space industry with Illinois’ own Coralie Adam. Born and raised in Illinois, Coralie holds a B.S. in Aerospace Engineering and Astronomy from the University of Illinois, and an M.S. in Aerospace Engineering Sciences from the University of Colorado. She leads the multi-mission Optical Navigation team at KinetX Aerospace, the first privately held company to provide deep space navigation and flight dynamics expertise to NASA. Her work enabled the first exploration of the Pluto system and the historic sample collection of near-Earth asteroid Bennu. For more details, and to sign up, visit www.rockislandlibrary.org. Wednesday, March 5:
- Wacky Movie Night: March 5 at 6pm, Rock Island Library Watts-Midtown Branch, 2715 30th Street. Join us for a 2001 Oscar winner, starring an ogre and donkey tasked with saving a princess. Just like onions, there are many layers to this movie. Free, suitable for all ages.
Thursday, March 6
- Winter Toddler Playgroup: March 6, 10 am to Noon, Downtown Library Children’s Room. Drop-in for unstructured playtime for ages 5 and under, and time to connect with other parents and caregivers.
- Drop in Computer Skills/Job Search: March 6, 4 pm to 6pm, Downtown Library computer stations. Free one-on-one help from Goodwill of the Heartland’s Helms Career Center. Free, for adults. First-come, first-served.
Ongoing events for toddlers and preschoolers this week include a 10:30 am Toddler Tales Storytime on Tuesdays and Fridays at the Watts-Midtown Branch, and an 11 am Toddler Tales storytime on Wednesday at the Southwest Branch.
