Due to ongoing drought conditions, Fire Chief Bob Graff has issued a TOTAL BURN BAN, effective immediately. This aligns with Illinois State Law (70 ILCS 705/8.20) and the City of Rock Island Code of Ordinances Sec. 10-40.3. This burn ban prohibits all forms of open burning, which includes:
• Landscape waste
• Agricultural waste
• Household trash or garbage
• Recreational fires (e.g., campfires or fire pits)
• Consumer fireworks of any kind
The Rock Island Fire Department has the authority to enforce this ban and impose fines on individuals who violate these regulations. Fines may be levied under Sec. 10-40 and Sec. 10-40.1 of the City Code.
This ban is meant to ensure public safety and reduce fire hazards. It's important for everyone to comply with these regulations to avoid penalties and contribute to community safety. Thank you for your cooperation.
