June 27, 2019, All Day @ Downtown
Check out the VR headset and remote from our 1st floor Reference Desk, and see the new I-74 Mississippi River Bridge in a unique way! Through creative collaboration, the Iowa Department of Transportation and Iowa State University have provided a way for you to virtually explore this once-in a lifetime interstate construction project. Once you put on the virtual reality headset, you'll experience a fully immersive view of the new bridge. "Fly" through the corridor, "drive" across the new bridge, see the Quad Cities from the scenic overlook, "stand" on the top of the arch, and "dive" into the river to get a close up view of the river ecosystem. Not recommended for very young children.
June 27, 2019, 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm @ Downtown
Celebrate the half-way mark of summer reading with a performance by the Navy Band Jazz Combo during Quad Cities Navy Week AND a mini-food truck roundup in our Downtown parking lot. Participants can purchase delicious cupcakes from the Scratch Cupcakery Curbside Van and beverages from the Cool Beanz Mobile Coffee Coach. A portion of proceeds benefits the library. The Vibrant Credit Union ice cream truck will also be on hand with FREE ice cream treats!
For family fun, chalk your place in the universe of readers, take a shooting stars picture, make stickers and buttons, and check out some of the great ways you can take your stories "on the go" with your Rock Island Library card. Food trucks are rain or shine, other activities may move inside if rain. No registration required.
Just one of MANY free Universe of Stories summer events happening June 1 to July 31 at Rock Island Libraries. Check our website events calendar for more!
