What programs does the King Center offer free of charge?

The following programs for children require pre-registration. Please call (309) 732-2999 for more information.

  • After-school: Homework help, recreation and life skills for kids ages 6-17. Monday-Friday from 3:00 to 6:00 pm. Snack and dinner are provided. Free transport from Rock Island schools to MLK Center.
  • Reach-out: During Rock Island school breaks, kids ages 6-14 are welcome for supervised recreation and fun educational activities.
  • Summer Day Camp: Six weeks of organized fun for kids ages 6-14. Activities include a literacy program that successfully keeps kids learning through the summer. Monday-Friday from 9:00 am-3:00 pm. Breakfast and lunch are provided.

VITA tax preparation assistance is a free service for qualifying individuals and families. It is available from February 5 until April 13, 2019 at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center, 630 9th Street, Rock Island, IL 61201 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 5:00 - 8:00 pm, and on Saturdays from 9:00 am 12:00 pm. No appointment is necessary at this location.
