Since January of 2014, the Rock Island Police Department has maintained Tier II level accreditation through the Illinois Law Enforcement Accreditation Program (ILEAP).

Accreditation through ILEAP is an ongoing process whereby law enforcement agencies throughout the State of Illinois evaluate policy and procedures against established criteria. These criteria are then verified by an independent and authoritative body, the Illinois Law Enforcement Accreditation Council. Measured against established industry and state standards of professionalism, police departments seeking accreditation are evaluated in over 250 areas such as Administration, Operations, Personnel, and Training.

Rock Island Police Chief Richard T. Landi is pleased to announce that an on-site assessment for re-accreditation will be conducted on September 29 and 30, 2022.  During this time trained assessors from peer agencies across the State of Illinois will conduct inspections, policy reviews, and audits of the police department.  These representatives of the Illinois Chiefs of Police Association will be examining the department to ensure that the Rock Island Police Department continues to meet the standards of the Illinois Law Enforcement Accreditation Program.

As part of the re-accreditation process, members of the public are encouraged to contact the assessors during a public call-in session on September 30th, 2022 between 9:00 A.M. and 10:30 A.M.  Anyone wishing to speak to an assessor during that time may call (309) 732-2642.

Once the on-site assessment visit is completed the assessors will confer, develop an on-site report, and meet with the Illinois Chiefs of Police Association's ILEAP Council to discuss the assessment findings.  The Council will then vote to determine if the Rock Island Police Department has met the professional standards that form the esteemed title of accreditation.
