
Neighborhood Planning
Rock Island has been doing neighborhood planning since the 1960s. Planning efforts evolved over the years from working with Model Cities to establishing Neighborhood Planning Areas in the 1970s and 1980s for specific and strategic improvements implementation. The city aggressively pursued neighborhood planning in the 1990s with many of the neighborhood organizations still operating today. Limited information about the

Neighborhood Networks
Today the strong neighborhood network in Rock Island is recognized as an asset. The efforts of neighborhood planning and the linkages and partnerships among neighborhood organizations and agencies are utilized in many community efforts, ranging from Safe Routes to School travel plans and the school district's Check & Connect program to broader community efforts initiated by the National YMCA and United Way.
