The Adopt-A-Highway Program is a community involvement program that brings volunteers into partnership with the City of Rock Island to keep our roadsides clean.

The City of Rock Island's Adopt-A-Highway Program is currently being updated.  Applications are paused at this time and are expected to be continued in the Spring of 2022.

In the meantime, if you would like to sponsor a neighborhood cleanup please contact the Rock Island Beautification Committee by email.

Program Participation

An organization wishing to become part of the Adopt-A-Highway Program will need to do the following:
  • Fill out an Adopt-A-Highway application.
  • The agreement will then be referred to the City Council who will authorize the City Manager to sign the agreement.
  • The Adopt-A-Highway signs will then be installed. The signs will indicate the name of the organization and the length in miles adopted.
  • A representative will meet with the organization to review the agreement and safety rules.
  • The City of Rock Island will supply safety vests and bags.
  • Each volunteer group is responsible for a section of highway and agrees to remove litter a minimum of four times per year for a minimum of two years.
