Southwest Plan

Guiding Suburban, Conservation & Compact Development

The Southwest Area Plan was approved in 2000 after an extensive public process of review and comment. It provides development guidance for the area south of the Rock River, Rock Island’s opportunity for suburban, conservation, and compact development. This plan set the stage for the Parkway Plan and Andalusia Road Corridor Study.

It recognizes the unique environment of ravines and wildlife, bike and pedestrian pathway opportunities, ponds, easy access to the older, northern area of Rock Island, and employment, recreation, and housing prospects.

The plan is a blueprint for creating mixed-use development, sustainable industrial parks, linkages to the interstate system, commercial uses, and enhanced streetscapes.
