For Residents

Helping Your Community by Going Green
The City offers several opportunities for residents to go green and get involved, such as:
  • Recycle - Residents can recycle paper, aluminum, and plastic at a drop-off center or through a curbside recycling program.
  • Plant a Rain Garden - A special program, Rain Gardens for Rock Island, is designed to stop stormwater run-off and offers financial incentives to residents who plant rain gardens.
  • Electric Vehicle Charging Stations - There are two electric vehicle charging stations on the first floor of the City Parking Ramp located at 16th Street and 3rd Avenue. The parking spaces are reserved for electric vehicle (EV) parking only. There is no cost to charge your vehicle but there is a $0.25/hour cost to park your vehicle in the metered parking space.
  • Adopt-a-Highway - The City of Rock Island's Adopt-A-Highway Program is currently being updated.  Applications are paused at this time and are expected to be continued in the Spring of 2022.
  • In the meantime, if you would like to sponsor a neighborhood cleanup please contact the Rock Island Beautification Committee by email.
