WATER AND SEWER

The Public Works Department is responsible for operating many of the water and sewer functions and facilities within the City of Rock Island. This includes publishing an Annual water quality report, storm water utility information, providing sewer and water main location maps, maintaining a municipal water system, and more.

Water service may be initiated or terminated during the hours of 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday at City Hall, 1528 Third Avenue.

WATER SERVICE

The City has maintained a municipal water system since 1872. Rock Island's source of water is the Mississippi River. An average of 5 million gallons are pumped daily to the Water Treatment Plant at 2215 16th Avenue for processing. A large ground storage facility and six elevated towers supply the 220 miles of water mains and 2,000 fire hydrants that deliver drinking water and provide fire protection throughout the City.

For your convenience, a drop box is available for payment of water bills, parking tickets and other City business where payment can be made by a check. Payment may be deposited in the drop box 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The drop box is located at 3rd Avenue and 16th Street (across from the Police Station).
