Welcome to your online guide to the City of Rock Island's stormwater management plan. The information in this portion of the city’s website is keeping with the city’s continuing efforts to educate the community about the importance of protecting water quality.
ABOUT STORMWATER
When it rains in Rock Island, storm water runoff picks up materials from our streets, parking lots and yards. Sources of pollution include cars, improper storage of materials, litter in driveways or streets, and erosion at construction sites. The water runoff carries all kinds of substances, some of them are harmful.
The City of Rock Island is studying approaches to prevent storm water pollution and to clean up excessive pollutants in the drainage system before environmental damage occurs. A sampling and monitoring program will be implemented to determine the extent of storm water quality problems existing in our community.
These efforts will help the city develop controls and a plan to prevent problems before they occur.
