The Rock Island Public Works Department is now offering a new Sewer Lateral Repair Program. This program is designed to protect customers from the unexpected financial burden caused by sewer lateral repair.

SEWER LATERAL REPAIR PROGRAM
Many sewer customers do not realize that they own the sewer lateral that connects their property to the City sewer system. If your sewer lateral fails, you are required to repair it or replace it. The average sewer lateral repair cost is over $2,300.
The City of Rock Island now offers a program that will protect you from the unexpected costs of a sewer lateral repair. The Sewer Lateral Repair Program pays up to $8,000 for the repair or replacement of a failed sewer lateral. In addition to protecting you from the cost of a sewer lateral repair, the program protects you from the nuisance of arranging financing and hiring a plumbing contractor on short notice. In peak periods, it sometimes takes weeks to make arrangements for a plumbing repair.
The Sewer Lateral Repair Program is available to the owners or contract purchasers of residential property. The sewer lateral must be six (6) inches or less diameter and be in working order. The cost of this program is $9.00 per month. The program charge is included on your city utility bill. The City of Rock Island also offers the opportunity to automatically withdraw this charge from your checking or savings account.
