MESSAGE FROM THE CHIEF
Welcome to the Rock Island Fire Department website. The men and women of the Rock Island Fire Department proudly carry on a rich tradition of providing emergency services to the citizens of our community, since the mid 1800s. We currently have four stations and a total staff of 61 personnel. In addition to fire suppression, we provide paramedic level, first response and Advanced Life Support ambulance service.
Rock Island Fire Department is also a member of MABAS 43, a group of area departments, which pool resources and training to provide a regional response capability. This MABAS organization is a part of the State of Illinois’ “State Response Plan” which includes regional Hazardous Materials Response and Technical Rescue Response.
Training opportunities are enhanced by the recent completion of our Regional Fire Training Facility located on the Arsenal Island. This facility consists of a three-story burn tower, a structural collapse simulator, a four story vertical rope rescue / confined space training tower, and numerous hazardous materials training props.
If you have any questions or desire further information, please feel free to contact us.
Thank you.
Douglas R. Vroman, Fire Chief
