Biography:
The honorable Mark Schwiebert is currently serving his 8th term as Mayor of the City of Rock Island. He has been a resident of this community for 56 years. The Mayor’s term will expire on May 1, 2009.
A graduate of Rock Island High School, Mayor Schwiebert went on to receive his Bachelor’s Degree from Augustana College. The Mayor also holds a Law Degree from Drake University in Des Moines, IA.
During his time in the Mayor’s Office, he has been actively involved in several local boards and commissions, including the Quad City Development Group, Bi-State Regional Commission, the Sustainable Design Advisory Team, the Rock Island Advanced Technology and Sustainability Consortium, and the Rock Island Arsenal Task Force.
In his free time, Mayor Schwiebert enjoys oil and water color painting, running, reading, and writing. Some of the things that the mayor likes best about living in Rock Island are the dedicated citizens, the historic buildings and neighborhoods, and the wonderful downtown. He believes that Rock Island is a great community in every sense of the word.
