The Inspection Division is part of the Community and Economic Development Department which is responsible for administering programs, projects and activities which enhance Rock Island as a place to live and work. The department focuses on preserving the city's older neighborhoods, regulating land uses for orderly growth and development, increasing economic activity, ensuring that buildings are safe for occupancy and use and fostering new residential, commercial and industrial growth.
The primary goal and objective of this division is to ensure that structures are safe for occupancy, based on the regulation of construction standards as adopted by the Rock Island Code of Ordinances. The Inspection Division also responds to Housing Code violations, and exterior nuisance complaints. Food Service and Retail Food Establishments are inspected and licensed by the Health Inspector. The Inspection Division issues building, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and health permits. Permits can be obtained through the Inspections Division located on 2nd floor of City Hall, 1528 3rd Avenue, Rock Island, Illinois.
