City of Rock Island Relocated Recycling Drop-Off Center

The City of Rock Island’s Recycling Drop-Off Center has moved to 701 2nd Street (Southeast corner of intersection, east of the Municipal Services building).  The move was to make way for construction at the Water Treatment Plant facility.  

The City of Rock Island, along with the communities of Moline, East Moline, and Milan, each host drop-off recycling sites as part of the program sponsored in part by the Rock Island County Waste Management Agency (RICWMA).  

The Recycling Drop-Off Center is open 24 hours a day, every day, including holidays.

Residents should place materials in the large commingled containers as follows:
     
Separate containers will be provided for a mixture of washed and clean: 

  • Plastics #one through seven (milk jugs, detergent, shampoo & liter bottles, food containers, etc.)
  • Tin cans and aluminum cans

Separate containers will be provided for a mixture of fiber, including: 

  • Corrugated cardboard
  • Chipboard or boxboard
  • Newspapers
  • Magazines
  • Mixed office paper
  • Phonebooks/Textbooks
  • Brown paper bags

Unacceptable items include:  aerosol cans, glass, any liquids, appliances, ashes, building materials or scraps, ceramic plates and cups, clothing, electronics, furniture, garbage, paint cans, plastic bags, styrofoam, tires, toys, windows, mirrors, and yard waste.
   
The Recycling Drop-Off Center does not accept household hazardous materials, white goods, garbage, or yard waste.  

The City also offers a Curbside Recycling Program for Rock Island citizens and businesses.
